Just wanted to say a huge thank you to Lyn - you've given me a big wake-up call!

I was diagnosed with seronegative arthritis three years ago, and have been reasonably well controlled but failed on MTX, sulphasalazine and leflunomide because of neutropenia. I was then started on Enbrel but I only managed two injections before coming out in a rash, so this is on hold whilst the rash is being investigated. For the whole of this time, I've been pretty much in denial about the whole thing - I just cannot believe that I have this horrible condition - me, who has been so fit and active ....

Trawling around the forum, I came across a link you'd given to work out the DAS score. I was shocked to come out with a score of highly active disease, 6.2.

I've been trying to reduce my inflammation levels with diet, and I do think it's helped to a certain extent, but I had hopes of being able to get off the drugs. Seeing that DAS score in black and white has made me realise that I really do need the drugs, and I need to stop kidding myself.

Hope this ramble makes sense, but THANK YOU!

Hi

Could you post the link to work out your own DAS score as I haven't a clue how to do it. Thanks

Hi Sheila

The link is www.4s-dawn.com/DAS28/DAS28.html (I'm a bit dizzy and brain fogged at the moment, so I hope I've got it right and I hope you find it). I had tried before to look on the internet for info about how the DAS28 is calculated, but never found anything. Seeing my score there in black and white really shocked me!

Hi Mylo

Glad you found the link useful and it has helped clarify the situation in your own mind. It is so easy at times to deny we have this disease so to see something in black and white can be the reminder we need of the importance of the medication.

I think there is a place for diet to effect some control but ultimately this chronic disease will always need the drugs, at some level, to avoid long term joint damage. Accepting this is the case is a huge positive leap forward and shoves the RA out of the pole position it likes to hold. You are in control not the RA and in my opinion a very positive step.

Hope things improve for you ThumpUp
